BASIC TIPS FOR PACKING...
1. Start early. Packing always takes longer than anticipated, especially when you start reminiscing over photos and items of sentimental value. 2. Start with packing items of least priority, working up towards the move day with items of more priority / everyday items. 3. Use sturdy packing boxes & always pack heavier items in small boxes. Pack heavier items at the bottom of each box and lighter items on top. Avoid using broken boxes. 4. Secure boxes and content. Wrap items separately with newspaper, blankets, linen, clothes, tissue material, old magazine pages or bubble wrap when packing into boxes. Take special care when wrapping breakables! Once the box is full and its contents are snug and secure, remember to close the box properly and wrap with enough tape to keep the box closed until you are ready to open it again. 5. Label your boxes. Clearly label your boxes with the following: 4.1 Your initial & surnames 4.2 Box number (correlate the box number with your list and indicate the contents of each box next to the box number on your list. Keep a copy of this list with you during your move so that you can use it as a reference when unpacking or searching for something in particular). 4.3 Add any other information to the box you may find useful when unpacking - such as ''kitchen'' or ''room 1''. 6. Hazardous materials such as paint, bleach and aerosols, should be packed into a separate box and kept away from the rest of your items. Remember to place these items upright and securely in the box - also read warning instructions at the back of each item and adhere to these instructions. 7. Pack important documents together, such as birth and marriage certificates, and keep them in a safe place. 8. Pack an essentials box. It is likely that you won't get everything unpacked the day you cross the threshold of your new home. Pack a separate box for the first night in your new home and carry it with you. Instant access to coffee, tea, snacks, cups and a kettle may be welcome soon after you arrive. As will plates, utensils and a kitchen cloth. Don't forget your toiletries! Happy packing! |
